In a groundbreaking development for lottery enthusiasts, the National Lottery has announced the introduction of a UK version of Powerball, featuring a staggering £1 billion jackpot. This new format is set to launch on June 10, 2026, and aims to revolutionize the gaming experience for players across the United Kingdom.

The new Lotto format will incorporate a two-round draw, significantly improving the odds of winning any prize to 1 in 4.9. This change is expected to enhance player engagement and satisfaction, as the number of seven-figure winners is projected to rise from approximately 140 to around 345 annually.

Tickets for the UK Powerball will be priced at £4 per line, with players needing to match five main numbers and one Powerball number to claim the top prize. Winners of this life-changing jackpot will receive their winnings distributed over a 30-year period, ensuring a long-term financial benefit.

In addition to the excitement for players, the UK Powerball is anticipated to contribute roughly £1 billion to Good Causes within its first five years of operation. This funding will support various charitable initiatives, reinforcing the National Lottery’s commitment to making a positive impact on society.

Andria Vidler, CEO of Allwyn, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming changes, stating, “We are delivering on our promise to bring more games, more entertainment and more innovation to The National Lottery.” This sentiment reflects a broader strategy to modernize the lottery experience and attract a new generation of players.

Feedback from players has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing excitement about the two opportunities to win £1 million or more in every draw. One player remarked, “I like the idea of the two opportunities to win £1m+ probably the best idea since the National Lottery began.” Such enthusiasm indicates a strong market readiness for the new format.

The National Lottery is undergoing a significant transformation, with this new game format being part of a larger overhaul that includes a £450 million investment in technology. This investment aims to enhance the overall player experience and ensure the lottery remains competitive in an evolving gaming landscape.

As the launch date approaches, anticipation continues to build among potential players and stakeholders alike. The introduction of the £1 billion jackpot is not just a game-changer for lottery players; it represents a pivotal moment in the history of the National Lottery, promising to reshape the future of gaming in the UK.

With the potential for increased winners and substantial contributions to good causes, the UK Powerball is poised to make a significant impact. As excitement grows, players are eager to see this innovative format in action, marking a new era for the National Lottery.

In a significant update for the National Lottery, Allwyn has announced the launch of Studio 59, a new in-house creative and content studio set to open in April 2026. This initiative aims to enhance content creation and strengthen the National Lottery’s presence in UK culture, as stated by Steve Parkinson, Marketing and Brand Director of Allwyn UK.

Allwyn’s commitment to community support is underscored by the announcement of funding for three important heritage projects. The National Lottery Heritage Fund has allocated resources to maintain historic synagogues and churches, with the Foundation for Jewish Heritage receiving over £140,000 for their management efforts. Additionally, the Nature in Sacred Places project has been granted almost £550,000 for an 18-month pilot project.

One of the standout projects is the Wren Project at St James’s Piccadilly, which has secured £4.725 million for redevelopment and sustainability efforts. Eilish McGuinness, chief executive of the National Lottery Heritage Fund, emphasized the importance of preserving places of worship, noting that they are among the oldest and most cherished heritage sites in the UK, yet face numerous challenges.

Since its inception in 1994, the National Lottery has raised over £52 billion for more than 670,000 Good Cause projects across the UK. Players contribute approximately £32 million each week to these initiatives, demonstrating the Lottery’s vital role in community funding.

In addition to funding projects, Allwyn has completed a £450 million technology upgrade for the National Lottery, marking a significant milestone in its operations. This upgrade is part of Allwyn’s broader strategy to modernize the Lottery, which it took over from Camelot in 2024.

Digital sales for the National Lottery have also seen impressive growth, reaching £4.1 billion in 2025, a 10% increase from the previous year. Andria Vidler, chief executive of Allwyn UK, expressed pride in delivering this growth while completing the largest international upgrade in lottery history.

With these developments, Allwyn is positioning the National Lottery not only as a source of entertainment but also as a key player in supporting community heritage and culture. The ongoing commitment to funding and innovation reflects a dedication to enhancing the Lottery’s impact on society.

As these initiatives unfold, the National Lottery continues to create opportunities for players, having awarded over £102 billion in prize money and creating more than 8,000 millionaires since its launch. The future looks promising for both the Lottery and the communities it serves.
