In March 2026, Air France implemented a price hike of up to €50 on certain flight tickets, a move designed to mitigate the impact of escalating fuel prices. This adjustment comes as fuel now constitutes a staggering 45% of airlines’ operating costs, a significant jump from the previous 25%.

Starting in April 2026, an additional €50 surcharge will be applied to long-haul round-trip tickets in both economy and premium economy classes. Over the past two months, the cumulative increase for long-haul flights has reached an average of €100, while short- and medium-haul tickets will see an average rise of €10.

Air France’s low-cost subsidiary, Transavia, is also following suit with similar price increases. However, passengers who have already purchased their tickets will not face additional fees due to these hikes.

Amid these financial adjustments, Air France is also focusing on enhancing the travel experience for its passengers. Nina Métayer, named the World’s Best Pastry Chef in 2023, is set to introduce a selection of new desserts for the airline’s Business Class. “I designed these desserts to be true travel companions. I’ve created rich yet light pastries to take travellers on a sensory journey, whilst evoking the charm of faraway destinations,” Métayer remarked.

The new dessert offerings will include a raspberry and coconut creation and a lemon verbena dessert, adding a touch of culinary artistry to the in-flight dining experience. Air France’s Business Class menu is curated by Régis Marcon, a three-Michelin-starred chef, further emphasizing the airline’s commitment to quality.

Additionally, Air France is taking steps to reduce food waste by allowing Business Class passengers to pre-select their main course up to 24 hours before departure. This initiative not only enhances customer satisfaction but also aligns with sustainable practices.

As the airline navigates these turbulent economic waters, the Middle East crisis continues to exert pressure on fuel and kerosene prices, complicating the operational landscape for airlines globally.
