EO Charging, once a prominent name in the electric vehicle infrastructure sector, has entered administration as of April 8, 2026. Founded in 2014 by Charlie Jardine, the company had carved out a niche by providing cloud-based management software and services primarily to fleet customers, including supermarkets and commercial fleet operators. However, despite its previous expansions into international markets such as the US, Australia, New Zealand, and Italy, the company faced mounting liquidity challenges.

Before this decisive moment, expectations were high for EO Charging. The company had been recognized multiple times in the FT1000 list of Europe’s fastest-growing companies and had ambitious plans to install 50,000 charge points by 2030. However, a recapitalization effort of £25 million in late 2025 failed to stabilize its financial footing, leading to a staggering £18 million in debt at the time of entering administration.

The immediate effects of this development are stark. A total of 69 jobs were lost, leaving only 24 employees to assist with the winding down of operations. Edward Williams, one of the appointed joint administrators from PwC, expressed regret over the redundancies, stating, “It’s regrettable that the company has been left with no option but to enter administration and that 69 employees have sadly been made redundant.” He further noted that the remaining staff would help customers transition to alternative suppliers.

Industry experts have pointed to EO Charging’s struggles as indicative of broader challenges within the electric vehicle infrastructure market. Reports suggest that the company had been loss-making for some time and faced consistent difficulties in meeting the needs of its supermarket and commercial fleet clients. This situation reflects a growing concern about the sustainability of businesses in the rapidly evolving EV landscape.

As EO Charging winds down, the sale of its domestic EV charger business to Cogent Technologies marks a significant shift in its operational strategy. The implications of this administration extend beyond the immediate job losses; they raise questions about the future of electric vehicle infrastructure in the UK and the viability of similar companies in a competitive market.

In a significant development for international trade relations, the United Kingdom is set to lead its largest-ever trade mission to the United States, dubbed Greater Together LA. This ambitious initiative, spearheaded by Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Peter Kyle, will take place from May 18 to May 22, 2026, in Los Angeles, California.

The Greater Together LA event is expected to showcase the robust economic partnership between the US and the UK, which boasts an impressive investment stock of approximately $1.5 trillion. This partnership supports around 2.6 million jobs across both nations, underlining the profound impact of their trading relationship, valued at $437 billion. The mission aims to foster innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship, with Kyle emphasizing that it seeks to unlock new opportunities for both economies to grow and thrive.

During the event, a two-day thought leadership summit will be held, sponsored by PwC UK, focusing on the theme of “Unexpected Connections.” This summit will feature 30 headline voices from various sectors, reflecting the diverse and dynamic nature of the UK’s economic landscape. The UK Government’s GREAT Britain & Northern Ireland Campaign is organizing the expo, which aims to highlight the shared values and collaborative spirit between the two nations.

The backdrop of this trade mission is particularly noteworthy, as the UK prepares to chair the P5 Process for the 2026 Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference, scheduled to take place from April 27 to May 22, 2026, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. This dual focus on trade and international security underscores the UK’s strategic role on the global stage.

In the lead-up to the trade mission, key figures have expressed their support. Sean Doyle, CEO of British Airways, stated, “British Airways is proud to support the GREAT campaign as we celebrate the creativity and innovation shared by the United Kingdom and United States.” Similarly, Robert Isom, CEO of American Airlines, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the partnership between their brands and the two nations.

Marco Amitrano, another prominent voice in the discussion, highlighted the unique economic and cultural relationship shared by the UK and the US, noting that it continues to evolve through investment and innovation. This sentiment reflects a broader understanding that the economic ties between the two countries are not just transactional but are built on a foundation of mutual respect and shared goals.

As the UK Labour party, under the leadership of Keir Starmer, prepares for this pivotal moment, it is drawing lessons from the successes of Australian leaders Bob Hawke and Paul Keating, who are renowned for their effective economic policies and international engagement strategies. Darren Jones, a senior figure in Starmer’s government, is among those advocating for a forward-thinking approach to trade and diplomacy.

With just four weeks remaining until the NPT Review Conference, the UK has a narrow but real window to help move the P5 from a holding pattern toward a more constructive trajectory. The outcomes of both the trade mission and the conference could significantly shape the future of UK-US relations and their respective roles in global governance. As the world watches, the UK’s commitment to fostering strong economic ties and addressing pressing global issues will be put to the test.
