After what feels like an eternity, Scream 7 premiered in theaters on Friday, February 27. Just a few days later, Anna Camp, who made her debut in the franchise with this latest film, faced backlash for sharing a social media post that expressed support for the movie.
Scream 7 Premiere Details
According to screenshots shared by PopCrave, Anna reposted a social media message on March 1 that stated, “The boycott failed, the critics failed, the ridiculous leaks failed. What truly succeeded was the audience’s support, making the film a hit. #Scream7.” A fan account, @screamwithrcs, was the first to share a screenshot of the tweet, accompanied by Taylor Swift’s track, “Karma.”
Following her post, Anna publicly apologized on her social media platforms, stating that she had “no intention of causing harm.”

“I recently realized that I shared someone else’s narrative that doesn’t align with my own views,” she stated. “I’ve removed the post because I truly intended no offense. I apologize to anyone who was impacted.”
A number of fans highlighted that the initial post alludes to the boycotts that occurred when Melissa was removed from Scream 7 in 2023. According to the BBC, Melissa was allegedly excluded from the latest installment of the franchise after she posted on social media in support of Palestine during the Israel-Gaza conflict at that time.

Jenna Ortega, who starred alongside her in Scream 6, also left the project, stating to The Cut in April 2025 that her exit “was not related to pay or scheduling. The situation with Melissa was unfolding, and everything seemed to be disintegrating.”

“The boycott centers around Melissa, Palestine, and issues of racism. I [believe] you understand the reason for the Boycott since you follow Melissa on Instagram,” a fan commented in reply to Anna’s apology, adding, “You might want to provide more details and clarify why you shared it in the first place, especially considering it’s a post from a racist individual that you chose to repost.”

Many were perplexed by her viewpoint, with one individual inquiring, “if you don’t agree with it, then what are your personal beliefs and why did you choose to share it?”
The individual who initially posted the tweet accepted responsibility by commenting beneath Anna’s apology, stating, “It was my tweet, so all the negativity should be aimed at me. Let Anna be.”
The debate arose after Scream 7’s director Kevin Williamson spoke about the demonstrations during the film’s premiere in Los Angeles on February 25.
“We exist in a world where numerous negative events are unfolding, and I believe many individuals desire to express their thoughts and have their concerns acknowledged regarding the troubling situations occurring,” he remarked to Variety while conveying his mixed emotions about Melissa’s removal from the film.

“I empathize with them,” he remarked, seemingly commending the demonstrators. “I’m not sure if boycotting Paramount+ is the solution. However, I believe individuals should tune into their true feelings and act in a way that resonates with them.”
