Historic Racing Event
King Charles II is set to visit Berkeley Castle for a day at the races from April 4 to April 6, 2026. This immersive event will recreate a pivotal moment in English history, featuring a military parade with marching soldiers and musket fire in his honour.
Tickets for this unique experience are priced at £17 for adults and £9 for children aged three and up, while children under three can attend for free. Family tickets for two adults and two children are available for £48, making it an accessible outing for families.
Top Competitors
The racing event will include the prestigious Unibet Champion Hurdle, where the standout competitor is Brighterdaysahead, rated 160, making her the best horse in the race by a narrow margin of 1lb over The New Lion, who has a rating of 159.
Golden Ace, the previous year’s Champion Hurdle winner, will also be competing, adding to the excitement of the event. Renowned racing analyst Matt Chapman remarked, “I ended up tipping Brighterdaysahead. The reason I changed my mind is she’s, by 1lb, officially the best horse in the race with a mark of 160.”
However, the competition is expected to be fierce, with Paddy Brennan noting, “I see Brighterdaysahead is going to be stabled at Olly Murphy’s yard. Obviously they’re trying something different, but if you’re looking for cheekpieces for Lossiemouth and a stable in Olly Murphy’s for Brighterdaysahead … they’re not positives.”
Looking Ahead
As the event approaches, anticipation builds around the performances of these top horses. With King Charles II’s presence, the event promises to be a significant occasion in the racing calendar. Further details about the event and the competitors are expected to emerge as the date draws nearer.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding additional attractions or changes to the racing lineup, but the excitement surrounding this historic event continues to grow.
