The 2026 Belfast City Marathon, scheduled for May 3, will introduce a team relay format comprising five distinct legs, each presenting participants with varying challenges in terms of distance.
Key details of the race:
- The marathon covers a total distance of 26.2 miles.
- Leg 1 spans 4.2 miles from Stormont Estate to Montgomery Road.
- Leg 2 extends 6.8 miles from Montgomery Road to Boucher Road.
- Leg 3 is 4.5 miles, connecting Boucher Road to Falls Road.
- Leg 4 measures 5 miles, from Falls Road to Duncairn Gardens.
- The final leg, Leg 5, concludes with 5.7 miles from Duncairn Gardens to Ormeau Park.
The inclusion of a team relay aims to attract a wider range of participants, as it allows individuals to compete in manageable segments rather than tackling the full marathon distance alone. This innovative approach has garnered interest among local running clubs and community groups.
A shuttle bus service will operate on race day from 8:00am to 10:00am, facilitating transport between Annadale Embankment and the designated relay changeover points. Furthermore, parking will be available at the Stormont Complex free of charge for attendees on marathon day.
Sources indicate that discounted parking options will also be offered at Q-Park and APCOA car parks for participants. In addition, all transport services related to the marathon are free for both spectators and participants, although rail services may not be included in this offer.
The Belfast City Marathon has established itself as an annual event since its inception, with the upcoming race marking its 44th occurrence. Organizers expect thousands of runners to take part in this year’s festivities.
