The Cambridge has formed a partnership with Concrete Rose to establish a self-sustaining financial support system for care leavers in Cambridgeshire. This initiative aims to address homelessness and financial hardship among young people transitioning out of care.
Documents show that The Cambridge has committed to a three-year pledge of £22,500 to Concrete Rose. This funding supports various community organizations that offer essential services, including housing transition and employment advice.
In particular, Jimmy’s Cambridge received £10,000 to fund a support worker dedicated to assisting young individuals during their housing transition. Similarly, Reach Haverhill also received £10,000 for a Community Adviser aimed at bolstering support in South Cambridgeshire.
Additionally, Cambridge Re-Use was allocated £3,674 for new computer equipment, which is vital for facilitating training and job placement initiatives. Carole Charter, representing The Cambridge, expressed pride in backing organizations that make a significant impact across communities.
The current state of the initiative indicates that funding is already being utilized effectively. Mike Farrington from Concrete Rose noted the barriers faced by young people without family support during critical moments in their lives.
Meanwhile, on another front, Cambridge Aerospace has been active in the defence sector. The UK Ministry of Defence signed a multimillion-pound contract with the company for its Skyhammer interceptor missiles. These missiles were recently tested in Jordan and boast a range of 30km and a maximum speed of 700km/h.
Barocal is also making strides in innovation; it secured £7.4 million in seed funding to develop solid-state cooling technology designed to reduce emissions in the heating and cooling sector. Mark Windeknecht from Barocal highlighted the breakthrough achieved in creating solid-state materials that can compete with traditional vapour-based systems.
As these developments unfold, The Cambridge’s partnership with Concrete Rose remains crucial for providing sustainable solutions to homelessness among care leavers. The first tranche of Skyhammer missiles is scheduled for delivery to the UK Armed Forces in May, further illustrating the region’s pivotal role in both community welfare and defence technology.
