Jack Colback Announces Retirement
Jack Colback has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 36. The midfielder concluded his career after making an impressive 480 professional club appearances.
Colback’s career spanned several clubs, including Sunderland, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich Town, and Queens Park Rangers. He made 135 appearances for Sunderland and 102 for Newcastle United, showcasing his talent in the Premier League.
Throughout his time in the Premier League, Colback made a total of 189 appearances, scoring 9 goals and providing 11 assists. He was part of the Sunderland squad that reached the Carabao Cup final in the 2013-14 season and contributed to Newcastle United’s Championship title win in the 2016-17 season.
After starting his career at Sunderland, where he had a pair of loan spells with Ipswich Town, Colback completed a free transfer to Newcastle United in 2014. He later joined Nottingham Forest initially on loan before making a permanent move in 2020.
In the summer of 2023, Colback signed with Queens Park Rangers, where he made 53 appearances. His versatility and experience were valuable assets to the teams he played for throughout his career.
Reflecting on his journey, Colback stated, “Today, I’m announcing my retirement from professional football. I feel privileged to have the honour of playing nearly 500 matches at the top level, representing some of the biggest clubs in the country in Newcastle, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich and Queen’s Park Rangers.”
He added, “There have been highs, lows, promotions, tough defeats, and moments I’ll never forget. I would like to thank all of my coaches, teammates and supporters who helped me to achieve my dream. Looking forward to what the next chapter holds.”
Colback was also capped once by England’s under-20s in 2009 and was called up to the senior England squad in August 2014, although he withdrew due to injury.
