Kevin Nolan Sacked as Manager of Northampton Town
Kevin Nolan has been sacked as manager of Northampton Town following a disappointing run of form that saw the team secure only one win in their last 16 league matches. The decision was announced shortly after the team suffered a 1-0 loss to AFC Wimbledon, marking Nolan’s final game in charge.
Under Nolan’s leadership, Northampton Town found themselves in a precarious position, currently sitting 23rd in League One, just three points away from safety. This poor performance has led to significant concern among fans and club officials alike, prompting the management to take decisive action.
Nolan took over the managerial role in December 2024, succeeding Jon Brady. During his tenure, he managed to keep the team in League One last season, finishing in 19th place. However, despite a promising start that saw the team reach as high as 12th in the standings, results deteriorated significantly after the Christmas period.
In total, Nolan was in charge for approximately 16 months, a period that included both highs and lows. His team struggled offensively, scoring only 31 goals in 36 matches, which is the second lowest total in the league. This lack of scoring power ultimately contributed to the club’s decision to part ways with him.
Colin Calderwood has been appointed as the interim manager while Northampton Town begins the search for a new permanent manager. The club’s chairman, Kelvin Thomas, expressed gratitude for Nolan’s contributions, stating, “We will always be grateful to Kevin for his hard work here, he helped keep us up last season and we enjoyed a strong first half of this season.” He added, “We are sorry to have to take this decision, but unfortunately as we all know, football is very results based.”
Thomas also noted that the recent sequence of performances led the club to believe that a change was necessary for the best interests of all concerned. Nolan leaves the club with the best wishes from the management, as Thomas remarked, “Kevin leaves with our thanks and our best wishes and we wish him well for the future.”
As Northampton Town navigates this transitional period, the focus will be on finding a new manager who can steer the team away from the relegation zone and back to a more competitive standing in League One. The sacking of Nolan marks the 10th managerial change in the league this season, highlighting the challenges many clubs face in maintaining consistent performance.
