What happened?

Capital&Centric has unveiled its vision for the residential-led development of the iconic Cannon Brewery site in Sheffield. The developer plans to deliver a blend of 252 design-led apartments in the first phase of approximately 500 homes at the former brewery, which closed in 1999. The development will also include co-working spaces, a residents’ lounge, a new urban park, and areas for independent cafes and bars.

Why it matters

The historic brew house will be preserved and transformed into office space, with food and beverage options on the ground floor. The iconic water tower will be restored and serve as a central feature of the urban park. Tom Wilmot, joint managing director of Capital&Centric, emphasized the project’s significance, stating it aims to create a vibrant community rather than just a place for residents to sleep. The project has received £11.67 million from the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority’s brownfield housing fund, highlighting its importance to local regeneration efforts.

What’s next?

Capital&Centric is collaborating with Sheffield City Council to move forward with the regeneration project. The plans have been submitted for approval, and if successful, the development is expected to breathe new life into the Neepsend area, creating a lively neighborhood that integrates living, working, and leisure spaces.
