What Happened
The Norwegian company EcoFishCircle AS (EFC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hayal International Company LLC to establish a land-based fish-farming facility in Saudi Arabia. This facility aims to produce 10,000 tonnes of Atlantic salmon annually.
Why It Matters
This initiative is part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which seeks to enhance the country’s role in sustainable aquaculture. EFC’s Modular Recirculating Aquaculture System (mRAS) will be utilized to minimize environmental impact while maximizing efficiency in water and energy use. EFC Chairman Terje Mikalsen emphasized the importance of land-based solutions for increasing seafood production sustainably.
What’s Next
The project, named Blue Oasis, will not only provide technological solutions but also operational support from EFC. Both companies are optimistic about the collaboration, with Hayal CEO Abdulrahm expressing excitement about the potential opportunities this partnership will create.
