What Happened
The Welsh Government has announced the list of events supported by the St David’s Day Fund 2026, which allocates £1 million to help community, regional, and national groups celebrate Dydd Gwyl Dewi, or St David’s Day, on March 1. Grants will range from £500 for small community initiatives to £40,000 for larger nationwide events. A total of 92 events are scheduled to take place across Wales from February 16 to March 6, 2026.
Why It Matters
This funding initiative aims to foster community spirit and promote Welsh culture, encouraging participation from various organizations. Additionally, the social media campaign ‘Random Acts of Welshness’ will return, inviting individuals to engage in small acts of kindness that reflect Welsh heritage. Events will also be held in Cardiff and London, showcasing Welsh food and drink, further enhancing the visibility of Welsh culture.
What’s Next
In the lead-up to St David’s Day, businesses in Wales are encouraged to participate in the celebrations, which include a variety of traditional and innovative activities. Meet In Wales will promote Wales as a business events destination through digital content and initiatives coinciding with the 10th anniversary of Wales Week in London. Local councils, such as Carmarthenshire County Council, will host community-focused events, including parades and cultural performances, to engage residents and visitors alike.
